Public Hearing Notice - Possible Action on County-Line School Merger

EDGECOMBE COUNTY PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE  - CONSIDERATION OF ACTION TO INITIATE A COUNTY-LINE MERGER OF THE EDGECOMBE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Notice is hereby given that the Edgecombe County Board of Commissioners will conduct a public hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Jonathan Felton Commissioners Room, located on the second floor of the Edgecombe County Administration Building at 201 St. Andrew St. Tarboro, NC.

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive citizen comments on the possible county-line merger of Edgecombe County Public Schools. Under consideration is moving the ECPS district line to the Edgecombe-Nash County line in the City of Rocky Mount. This would transition the four schools located on the Edgecombe County side of Rocky Mount, currently in the Nash County School System, into the Edgecombe County Public School System. The schools are D.S. Johnson Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Baskerville Elementary, and Parker Middle School. This action would also mean that all K-12 students who live on the Edgecombe County side of Rocky Mount, including those who attend schools within the Nash County School System, would then attend Edgecombe County Public Schools.

Those who wish to speak on the matter are encouraged to attend this public hearing. Citizens may also submit public comments via email to publiccomments@edgecombeco.com or by mail addressed to Frangie Mungo, Clerk to the Board, P.O. Box 10, Tarboro, NC 27886.  All public comments received in writing by 5:00 p.m. on July 5th will be read at the meeting.
