Register of Deeds

Mission

The mission of the Edgecombe County Register of Deeds is to record and maintain births, deaths, marriages, service discharges, notaries, maps and all consolidated real estate transactions.

We are governed by three state agencies: the Legislature, the Secretary of State and North Carolina Vital Records. The Institute of Government advises us with any questions that may arise.

We assist attorneys, land surveyors, realtors, ministers, funeral homes, genealogists, and the general public. Our goal is to always provide prompt, professional service with a smile!

NOTICE
G.S. 132-1.10 (g) 1

Any person preparing or filing a document for recordation or filing in the official records may not include a social security, employer taxpayer identification, driver’s license, state identification, passport, checking account, savings account, credit card, or debit card number, or personal identification (PIN) code or passwords in the document, unless expressly required by law or court order, adopted by the State Registrar on records of vital events, or redacted so that no more than the last four digits of the identification number is included.

BIRTH, DEATH AND MARRIAGE CERTIFICATES

The cost of all certified copies is $10 per copy. The Edgecombe County Register of Deeds Office offers this online ordering system in partnership with Permitium/AIS. There is a convenience fee of $3.35 per transaction plus applicable credit card fees which is collected by Permitium/AIS. Please be advised that neither the Edgecombe County Register of Deeds nor Edgecombe County will retain any portion of the aforementioned fees except the statutorily mandated $10 fee for each certified copy ordered.

Edgecombe County Register of Deeds Office wants to protect the identities of our citizens. During the online application process, the data you provide will be analyzed and additional "personal knowledge" questions will need to be answered. This information will ensure us that when we process your order, the certificate will be sent to the appropriate person and location.
