Economic Development
When it comes to Economic Development, we take a cover-all-the-bases approach. We support industrial recruitment and expansion. Some notable firms have located and expanded here including CSX, Hillshire, KCST, and QVC. We know the importance of economic growth and support it with local dollars through incentives. We also work hard to grow our own jobs through entrepreneurship and small business development. This includes capitalizing on many wonderful tourist attractions. Tourism has grown to generating nearly $40 million yearly for our local economy. However, none of these could be successful were it not for our workforce. We are committed to providing the resources and tools needed of our workforce so that we are prepared for an ever changing economy.

Cargo Transporters Opens a New Facility in Edgecombe
Claremont based Cargo Transporters, Inc. has opened its new operations in Rocky Mount. This $6 million terminal facility will be home-base for 100 trucks. It is located in the Fountain Industrial Park and has offices, driver lounge, orientation facilities, four shop maintenance bays and parking for 125 tractor-trailer combinations.
The company, a privately, family held business, has been operating the truckload carrier since 1982 and has been involved in truck leasing, warehousing and transportation for 50 years. “We are very excited about the opportunity to expand our operation closer to our eastern NC customers as well as the ability to hire drivers and employees based in this area,” says Dennis Dellinger, President. “Providing this state of the art facility closer to drivers’ homes will allow them to earn a maximum wage and still have quality time when they are at home with their family,” says Dellinger. The facility is also located just 250 yards from the newly announced CSX rail terminal.
The company is a truckload carrier operating 500 trucks serving the continental US. They are holding an OTR driver hiring event on Friday, August 19th 1-5pm at the temporary office onsite at 4043 College Rd, Rocky Mount, NC.
