Changes to Animal Services Ordinance
ATTENTION EDGECOMBE COUNTY ANIMAL OWNERS!
The County has made changes to the existing animal services ordinances that MAY affect you.
- No puppies or kittens less than SIX (6) weeks of age may be sold, raffled, given away or offered for sale
- Any person(s) adopting an animal from the Edgecombe County Animal Shelter must agree to and sign an adoption agreement. Failure to comply with any items in the adoption agreement hall result in seizure of the animal.
- Any resident owning an animal that may be considered exotic (please see ordinance for list), a registration form may need to be submitted to Animal Services. The registration form and ordinances are available at edgecombecountync.gov/departments/sheriff/animal_control
REMINDER! All dogs, cats and ferrets over 4 months of age MUST be vaccinated against rabies! **THIS CANNOT BE PURCHASED AT A STORE. IT MUST BE GIVEN BY A LICENSED VETERINARIAN OR A STATE CERTIFIED RABIES VACCINATOR**
There are multiple clinics held annually by Animal Services and at the veterinary offices in Tarboro where discounted vaccines may be obtained. When available, the 2022 schedule will be posted at the animal shelter and online at edgecombecountync.gov/departments/sheriff/animal_control
