Utilities Crew Leader
Description : The Edgecombe County Utilities Department is accepting applications for a full-time Utilities Crew Leader. He or she will perform intermediate technical work operating, maintaining and repairing water/sewer plants and wells, collecting water samples, repairing and maintaining fire hydrants; maintaining records and files preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Utilities Operations Supervisor. Continuous supervision is exercised over Utilities Technicians.
Essential duties include: Locates utility lines for contractors; completes water/sewer taps and service connections; prepares, repairs and maintains water and sewer lines, wells and pump stations; assists in taking water samples as needed; serves as the Utilities Operations Supervisor in their absence; coordinates work with other departments and contractors; maintains records and files; installs, removes, repairs, changes, shut-offs and read meters throughout the entire system; operates dump trucks, back-hoes, tractors and tapping machines; performs operation and maintenance on all system hydrants.
Education: High school diploma or GED and extensive experience working in the operation, repair and maintenance of a water system, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements: Level C Water Distribution Certification, Level I Collections Certification, Class B Commercial Driver’s License. Must be able to obtain certifications and license within 12 months of employment.
Starting Salary Range Begins at $26,822 (with excellent benefits that total over $10,000 annually); the starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience of the candidate.
