Mission

The Edgecombe County Water Departments mission is to provide, operate and maintain a public water supply system with its customers health, safety and well-being as its first priority.

WATER AND SEWER SYSTEM OVERVIEW

Edgecombe County lies in the central portion of the Coastal Plain. Potable water to serve the county Water Districts is surface water taken from the Tar River, which is supplied through agreements with the City of Rocky Mount and the Town of Tarboro.

The County is subdivided into five Water and Sewer Districts. Of those five districts, three are fully constructed and serving a large portion of the County. District 5 is a forthcoming project which will serve an area in the north-western section of Edgecombe County and includes nearly 75 miles of water main to serve approximately 550 customers. The Leggett system which is a part of district 5 was taken over in 2001 and serves approximately 600 customers. District 4 is the smallest and most rural of all the districts within Edgecombe County. There are approximately 450 potential customers who could be served by the water extension.
