Banned Materials

TV's and Computer Equipment Now Banned from the Landfill!

NC Law 2010-67 went into effect July 1, 2011 which establishes a electronics recycling program which in effect now bans the disposal of tv's and computer equipment.

You can take you these items either to the landfill at 2872 Colonial Road or to any of the 8 Convenience Sites and the attendant there will show you where to put them.

Visit the NC Division of Waste Management website for more information about the law and to get a list of manufacturers who will recycle ther brands of computers and tv's.

 
Banned Materials

Beginning with Senate Bill 111 in 1989 and in subsequent legislation, the North Carolina General Assembly has established disposal bans on a wide range of materials. New disposal bans came into effect on Oct. 1, 2009 on used oil filters, plastic bottles and wooden pallets. These join a list that includes:

  • Aluminum Cans
  • Antifreeze
  • Appliances
  • Lead-Acid Batteries
  • Motor Oil
  • Oyster Shells
  • Yard Waste
  • Scrap Tires
  • Beverage Containers from ABC permitted facilities

 Don't Forget to Cover Your Load

To prevent litter and waste, Edgecombe County Code of Ordinances require that all loads of trash and debris transported on the highway are to be properly covered. You can be fined $25 for uncovered loads. If you have received that fine,  you may purchase a tarp to cover your loads and show proof of purchase at the Solid Waste Office at 2821 Colonial Road, and the fine will be dropped.
