Recyclable Materials
MATERIALS ACCEPTED AT THE RECYCLING CENTERS:
Motor Oil:
Oil from cars and other vehicles. Please ask the attendant on duty for instructions. No anti-freeze, gasoline or solvents of any kind are recyclable. Anti-freeze at Colonial Road only.
Batteries:
Car, light truck and tractor batteries. Please ask the attendant on duty for instructions. Household (alkaline) batteries are not recyclable.
Cardboard:
Clean, dry corrugated cardboard boxes. Break down and flatten the boxes. Place them in the cardboard container. No boxes other corrugated are recyclable.
Chemical Containers:
Plastic, pesticide containers. Thoroughly rinse containers according to an approved method (pressure rinse probe or triple rinse). Puncture the container. Paper Booklets need to be removed. Paper labels do not have to be removed. Thread and lip of container must be clean and the container must be dry. Metal or non-plastic containers are not recyclable.
Glass:
All glass containers, brown, green and clear. Remove the lids, and rinse out the bottles and jars. Place bottles and jars in the glass container. You do not need to remove the paper labels. Drinking glasses, mirrors, window glass, Pyrex dishes, ceramic, light bulbs or any glass that’s not a container are not recyclable.
Aluminum:
Aluminum beer and soft drink cans. Empty cans and place in the container labeled Aluminum cans. Aluminum foil and aluminum food containers are not recyclable.
Magazines & Newspapers:
Clean, dry, untied and unbagged newspapers and all inserts that come with the newspapers and magazines. Place newspapers inside the container labeled newspaper and magazines. Telephone books or other paper products are not recyclable.
Plastic:
Only plastic soft drink bottles, milk and water jugs. Remove the cap, rinse the bottle, flatten it and place it in the container. Look for a (1) or (2) on the bottom of the container. Do not put plastic bags in these containers. Motor oil, antifreeze or any other container that has been used for petroleum products are not recyclable.
Scrap Metals "White Goods":
Dishwashers, refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, water heaters and other scrap metal. These items must be emptied before bringing them to the Recycle Center.
Bulk Waste Items "Brown Goods":
Chairs, mattresses, sofas, tables, television sets (TV’s) and other furniture items.
Yard Waste "Mulch":
Leaves, limbs (not larger than 6” in diameter and longer than 4’) and grass clippings. Stumps, demolition materials and commercial waste are not accepted. This must be taken to the Landfill. Oyster shells only at Baie, Colonial, and Spivey road.
Tires:
Limit of 5 will be taken. More than that will have to be taken to the Landfill.
