- Detention Officers - Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 21 years of age, able to pass a background check, polygraph, psychological, medical exam and drug screen. Anyone interested can apply in person at the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office at 3005 Anaconda Rd, Tarboro, NC. Starting salary is $23,926.55
