Building Permit Process
Obtaining a Building Permit is a 4-step process for new construction.
Step 1: Obtain a Soil Analysis from the Edgecombe County Health Department. This is first necessary to determine the general suitability of soils for septic tank waste disposal. A detailed permit for placement is issued in Step 3 shown below.

Step 2: Obtain a Zoning Compliance Permit from the Planning Office of the Planning & Inspections Department. There is a $15.00 dollar permit fee.

Step 3: Obtain an Improvements Permit for installation of a septic tank and a well permit from the Edgecombe County Health Department:

Step 4: Obtain a Building/Manufactured Home Permit from the Inspections Office of the Planning and Inspections Department:

Fee: Dependent upon structure being built
*NOTE: Soil analyses are not required for lots with an existing septic tank where previous development has occurred. An Existing System Permit is required from the Health Department in such cases.
