What type of water systems can be tested by Edgecombe County Health Department?
Edgecombe County Health Department collects well water samples only from wells located within Edgecombe County. Bacteriological samples can be taken only from protected well water supplies and/or springs.
Can I bring in a sample of well water to be tested?
No. A sample must be collected by the Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Technician using proper collection methods and equipment. The sample is taken from a faucet nearest the well. Depending on the type of sample requested, access to the inside of the house by the Environmental Health Specialist or Environmental Health Technician may be necessary.
Can this service be used for loan closings?
Yes. The tests that are performed are collected from properly protected well water supplies for the purpose of loan closings.
Who can apply for this service?
The owner of the property can apply to have the well water supply sampled. Any specific problems should be noted. A physician can make a written request for a water sample to be taken. No fee will be charged on physician requested samples.
