Public Swimming Pools

General Information

Public swimming pool operation permits are issued annually for year round and seasonal pools. A separate permit is required for each pool, spa, and/or wading pool in operation. An application must be submitted prior to opening a seasonal pool or a year round pool before the operation permit expires. This application should be submitted at least 30 days prior to opening or expiration of operation permit to prevent a delay in your planned opening day. The fee for each application is $125.00.

Number of Facilities and Frequency

Seasonal pools are inspected once per calendar year and year round pools are inspected twice per calendar year.

Pool Plan Review

Before construction can begin on a new pool/spa or a remodel* can begin to an existing pool/spa, plans must be submitted and approved by the Edgecombe County Health Department, Division of Environmental Health. A fee of $200.00 is charged at the time the plans are submitted for review.

*Remodel means renovations requiring disruption of the majority of the pool shell or deck, changes in the pool profile, or redesign of the pool hydraulic system. Remodeled does not include equipment replacement, repair, or addition of outlets for the purpose of reducing suction hazards.
