Dr. Carol Kline of NC State University is conducting the class called “Tourism Planning: Keeping it Real.”  The purpose of the class is to develop a professional tourism development plan for Edgecombe County. A copy of this plan will be posted here for review after June 1st. Come back and take a look at the plan.

Edgecombe County is located in Eastern North Carolina. Our workforce, natural resources, location, highways, workforce development system, community college, and commitment of local government leaders all make the right ingredients for economic growth and sustainability. We are located within an easy commute to the beach, the Triangle and many other popular destinations in the region. Rail and airport access, Interstate 95 and Highway 64, and many well maintained state roads keep us well connected to major markets. We have many notable tourist attractions that draw more and more visitors every year, many of whom decide to move here.  That’s why, for business & industry and visitors alike, Edgecombe County is easy to get to, but hard to leave.

When it comes to Economic Development, we take a cover-all-the-bases approach. We support industrial recruitment and expansion, and some notable firms have located and expanded here including Sara Lee and QVC. Though our resources are scarce, we know the importance of economic growth and support it with local dollars through incentives. We also work hard to grow our own jobs through entrepreneurship and small business development. This includes capitalizing on many wonderful tourist attractions. Tourism has grown to generating nearly $40 million yearly for our local economy.  But none of these could be successful were it not for our workforce. We are committed to providing the resources and tools needed of our workforce so that we are prepared for an ever changing economy.
