Heat Relief Program

The Edgecombe County Office on Aging is still giving out fans to senior adults who do not have air conditioning or other means of heat relief in their homes. To qualify one must be 60 years or older whose health would otherwise suffer during hot summer months, and be persons who are retail residential customers of Progress Energy, or persons who reside in a county served by Progress Energy. To receive a fan one must show a driver’s license, picture ID card or other item to show proof of age, and a current utility bill or other mail showing residence within Edgecombe County.

If an older adult is immobile, has difficulty walking, or lacks means of transportation, a family member, caregiver or neighbor can pick up the fan for him as long as they have proper proof of age and residency and can describe the senior’s home situation.

This year the Edgecombe County Office on Aging has received fans from Progress Energy and will be purchasing more with a recent donation from Edgecombe-Martin County Electric Membership Corporation.

The Edgecombe County Office on Aging is asking all citizens to help spread the word about this Heat Relief Program in their neighborhood, church and business communities. The office is located on the second floor of the county administrative building at 201 St. Andrew St. in Tarboro.
